A boy enters 7th grade, he likes a girl names Teresa. He tries to get her to notice him but she doesn't seem to. So Victor tries his hardest and ends up joining her french class even though he can't speak French.
"Success is not the absence of failure, it's the persistence through failure." - Aisha Tyler
If you persist through all of the tough times, success is in the near future.
The setting influenced things like how Victor approached Teresa every time he tried to get her attention. For example he hid behind a book for cover so Teresa wouldn't see him.
"He wanted to leave when she did so he could bump into her and say something clever."
"He wanted to leave when she did so he could bump into he and say something clever." "He stretched out lazily in an attempt disguise his snooping."
Victor goes after the girl he likes, in those attempt he fails or embarrasses himself. Even after that he tries harder and gets one step closer to getting the girl.
Victor can't get the attention of Teresa
They love it
"Her next class was French, same as Victor... He didn't know what to say." The conflict helps the theme because if Teresa already liked him he would not have to try so hard to get her attention. But because she doesn't he has to be persistent in his actions to get her attention.
Victor enters seventh grade trying to follow through and make Teresa love him. He tries really hard and embarrassed himself in the process. He even goes to the extreme by joining her French class even though he doesn't know the language. I think this expresses the theme because he tries multiple times to get her attention. He is persistent and determined to make her like him this year.
