Because of a prophecy, Laius believes that the only way to save his home country is to kill his son by hanging him from his feet on the side of a mountain.
Unable to leave the child there to die, the servant of the kind gives Oedipus to a shepherd
Man
Unable to care for the child himself, the shepherd takes Oedipus to the king and queen of Corinth, who have no children. They take Oedipus in and he becomes their son.
Oedipus visits an oracle and is told that he will eventually kill his father and marry his mother. He flees Corinth to make sure that this does not happen. He goes to Thebes.
When entering Thebes, Oedipus is confronted by 3 men and a lord. He kills all of them but one. Upon entering the city, he finds a sphinx tormenting the city. He must solve her riddle to enter, and that he does. He is then gifted with Jacosta, who recently lost her husband in a robbery.
After a few years, Oedipus finds out through an old man that the king and queen of Corinth are not his real parents. He finds out that his father was one of the men he killed on the road, and that he married his mother, Jocasta. He is exiled from the city along with his daughter Antigone.
