  • Focus Question: How does natural selection lead to adaptation in population?
  • Unit: evolution
  • Adapations
  • Environment: Rainforest Organism: Deer Adaptations: antlers Adaptation Type: Physical
  • Principle 1: Genetic variation
  • Natural selection leads to adaptation in the population by adapting many physical adaptations that are suited for their survival.
  • Principle 2 :Overproduction and the struggle to survive
  • This adaptation increases the deer's fitness because it prevents attacks from predators and be used as a defense method.
  • Principle 3: Survival and reproduction of the fittest
  • The species of deer shows genetic variation for antlers because of this advantage, the deer with antlers will be able to be used as a weapon.
  • Principle 4: changes in the gene pool
  • Deer without antlers will be less likely to survive an attack from the attacker. Deer with the advantage of having antlers will be able to defend itself and perhaps kill the predator.
  • The deer with antlers, allows them to fight off predators in the attack and will be able to survive with the highest chance and grow with more offspring.
  • The more and more deer with antlers are surviving they begin to increases in their population by producing offspring and passes down genes.
