  • Yes, we will become a part of the Eastern Bloc.
  • The Warsaw Pact was a mutual defense agreement signed by the SU and other countries. It was a reaction to West Germany becoming an independent nation and joining NATO.
  • The German-Soviet Frontier Treaty was a secret clause amended on September 28, 1939 by Nazi Germany and the SU. It defined the borders in the event of arrangement and caused parts of Estonia, Latvia, and Russia to be annexed.
  • Latvia, would you like to join the Soviet Union, you have no choice.
  • Well, if you say so.
  • All of the countries in the Eastern Bloc were dominated by the Soviets at the end of WW2. Latvia, a part of the Eastern Bloc, had succeeded from the SU. Most countries are now part of NATO.
  • Conflict between Latvia and the Soviet Union mainly began when Latvia declared independence. Latvian nationalists rebelled against Soviet troops and 2300 people were killed.
  • On August 5th, 1940 the Red Army marched into Latvia and easily took over. The Military takeover period was brief and quiet. Latvia was forced to join the powerful Soviet nation.
