in a man's chamber, upon a bleak, dreary, December night a man sits reading in his chair nearly napping.
the lonely man sits barely awake grieving over his lost loved one, "sweet, sweet Lenore".
in the midst of his reading/napping he heard an awkward kind of tapping at his chamber door. after checking to see who it was (assuming it was an annoying neighbor) he was left baffled when no one or nothing was at the door. all of a sudden there was another tapping at the door and this time there was a raven.
looking through his window this is what the man saw, a raven that was perhaps staring mockingly at him. after a swift "conversation" with the raven, his blood quickly started to boil whenever he asked if he would ever see Lenore again and the bird replied the repeated response of "nevermore". the man began to shout and rage ran throughout him.
after realizing the bird was in no hurry to go anywhere and was there to stay, the man (now exhausted) settled down.
he finally returned to his normal life (plus a brand new pet bird) reading and nearly napping hoping for no more tapping.
