Storyboard Text

  • Your new baby!
  • Hold on boss, i'll put you on hold
  • He's always working. Can't even be home for the first steps.
  • I'm gonna be like him.
  • Daddy, look!!! I can walk!
  • Not now son.
  • I'm gonna be like him.
  • Hey Dad, wanna play catch?
  • Maybe later. Sorry Jeff, where were we...
  • This slide shows that the narrator's baby has been born, "My child arrived just the other day (...) in the usual way"(Chaplin 1-2). He is on the phone even when the baby is born, already showing that he is very busy.
  • Son, can we talk?
  • Not now. Can I have the car keys?
  • This slide depicts the son attempting to show his dad that he can walk "he learned to walk while I was away" (Chaplin 4). The mother looks with disapproval at her busy husband, as the son imagines to be like his dad.
  • Can we talk, son?
  • Later Dad; busy.
  • In this slide, the son wants his dad to play catch with him " dad, come on lets play" (Chaplin 14-15), but the dad is calling someone.  It shows that the dad never has time for his son, even now. Yet the son still believes in his dad, and still wants to be like him.
  • My boy is just like me...
  • This is the first time the father really wants to talk to his son, but he is too late "can you sit for a while(..) what I'd really like dad, is the car keys" (Chaplin 27-29). The tables have finally turned, and the father must feel the pain his son has felt so many times.
  • This slide occurs years later, "I've long since retired, my sons moved away" (Chaplin 36). The father makes a vain attempt to see his son, but the son is busy, "i'd like to see you (...) Dad, if I can find the time" (Chaplin 38-39). The father has finally found the time for his son, but the son lived up to his dream and turned out just like his father.
  • This slide shows the father finally truly knowing his son's old pain as he realizes "My boy was just like me" (Chaplin 45)
