Pap snuck into Huck's room to try and get some money from Huck but was upset when he found out Judge Thatcher had the money. He also discovered that Huck was going to school and threatened him if he did not stop.
Then, Widow Douglas and the Judge went to court to get Huck away from Pap and let one of them be his legal guardians. The court ruled that they would not separate Huck from his father.
The next day, Pap had gotten drunk and went to see Judge Thatcher to get Huck's money and threatened to have the law enforce Judge Thatcher.
Pap was upset about not getting any of Huck's money so he took Huck to an old log hut to live with him. He would lock Huck inside whenever he left.
One night Pap came back to the cabin really drunk and chased Huck around with a knife. He kept chasing him around calling Huck the Angel of Death until he passed out.
The next morning, Pap woke up and did not remember what had happened the night before. Huck decided he needed to leave so he found a canoe and left Pap.
