  • White and Woman Union Soldiers 
  • pretending to be a man.
  • Black Soldiers
  • We are going to help in the war.
  • Foreign soldiers 
  • We are Foreign soldiers that decide to come to help out in the war.
  • The first and second groups were the White males and the woman. The White males jobs before the war were farmers, engineers, mechanics, and college professors. Women dressed as men to join the army. They were revealed to be women after the war
  • Southern White man
  • We are fighting, So we can keep the SLAVES!
  • U.S. War Department established the Bureau of Colored Troops enabling black men to serve as soldiers. 
  •                  Slave Soldiers
  • Some of us are going to be soldiers and some of us are going to be servants.
  • a quarter of the Union soldiers was made of Foreigners Germans, followed by the Irish, Canadians, and English. Other nationalities represented in the army included Scandinavians, Swiss, French, Italians, Mexicans, and Poles.

  • Most of the Confederate soldiers were under 30. Some were under 18 to be drummer boys. 50% of the soldiers were farmers. Other people were carpenters, clerks, blacksmith, and student.
  • Black men served the war as body servants, laborers, and construction of fortifications. Confederate also passed a law saying that black men are allowed to join the army.
  • The largest group of foreigners were mostly Irish. Followed by Germans, British, French, Poles, and the  Canadians
