The first part of the story begins in winter with a small rock named sandy. The rock was once part of a mountain. She breaks off of the mountain one day and falls in between the bark of a pine tree.
In the second part of the story spring is on its way and the pine tree is growing. One day the bark of the pine tree widens and sandy is free. She tumbles off the tree and lands next to a waterfall.
In the third part of the story sandy slips and tumbles down the waterfall. She ends up in a river! She flows and flows until she found a spot were she could rest.
In the fourth part of the story Sandy gets swept away by the river. The river takes her to an ocean. Other rocks crashed against Sandy causing her to get smaller. Soon Sandy became a grain of sand.
In the fifth part of the story Sandy splashes in the waves as a grain of sand. Then Sandy then gets caught on a piece of kelp. The kelp washes up on the shore with Sandy on it. Animals gather around the kelp. Sandy is glad to have company.
Sandy had a good life after that. Each day kids would come to the beach and play in the sand. Sandy would get caught on their feet and go on adventures with them. Sandy could make new friends. Sandy loved the beach.
