  • During the time of the "roaring twenties", people were living carefree and happy lives knowing that they were able to afford expensive items.
  • It was very popular and easier for people to have possession of their items right away and just worry about paying on credit.
  • Hear that darling? We can get an automobile, telephone, AND radio! We can own it right now and just pay later!
  • Most Canadians had luxurious items like appliances, cars, telephones and radios. Everyone was satisfied.
  • On October 29, 1929, everything changed. This date is called Black Tuesday.
  •  There was a huge stock market crash and investors lost $16 billion, nowadays valued at $199 billion. 16 million shares were bought on the New York Stock Exchange. 
  • People had to give back all their belongings that they didn't pay for, and many became very poor.
  • We don't have any more appliances, electronics AND our automobile is gone! What are we going to do?
  • This was the beginning of the Great Depression. Many people needed extra assistance from the government, because many financial issues started to occur.
