Many countries tried to find a quicker route to Asia. Christopher Columbus was sent by Spain to find one, but he failed terribly. (in someways) He did find though, the "New World" He was one of the main discoverers.
Pineda was sent by Spain on an expedition to the Americas in 1519.He arrived in Texas, and traveled along the coastline eventually making it to modern day Florida, and Cabo Rojo, Mexico. He was the first to map out the gulf coast.
Cortes was sent from Spain to find Gold and Silver. The Aztecs viewed Cortes and his crew as gods because of armour, horses, and firearms. He conquered the Aztecs and stole their Gold and silver.

In 1540 Coronado led 1000 men and discovered The Grand Canyon, The Pacific Ocean and Kansas, but they were considered failures to Spain bc they didn't find riches.
