Around the world, rice plantations are loosing 75% of their total rice. Farmers are loosing their jobs and lots of people are going hungry because of the lack of rice. Josh and Alex are called to discover what's going on. They find this new bacteria, wich ruins a lot of rice plantations. It infects almost all of the plantations because they all share the water.
What is happening with all of my rice
Josh and Alex were testing out a new GMO version of the rice plant, although the tests were rather slow they were proving with interesting results, one of the rice shoots had gained a type of bacteria that actually helped the rice grow faster!
The deduced amino acid sequence of the Xa1 gene product contains nucleotide binding sites (NBS) and a new type of leucine-rich repeats (LRR); thus, Xa1 is a member of the NBS-LRR class of plant disease-resistance genes, but quite different from Xa21, another BB-resistance gene isolated from rice
The add Xa1 amino acid into the rice to make it Blight resistant
After the successful tests with the discovery of this new symbiotic relationship between the rice and the bacteria, the GMO is packaged and ready to ship around the world, as josh and Alex do the final checks they see the cargo ship send off from the port route headed to California
This rice is killing people!!
Will Alex and Josh be able to save the world by curing the rice plant? Or will everyone die because of toxic rice??Find out next week!
