"They would die here, of that Laila was sure now, but what she really dreaded was that she would outlast Aziza, who was young and brittle" (271).
"And, really, what could be said, what needed saying, whenyou'd shoved the barrel of your gun into your wife's mouth" (300)?

Rasheed has trapped Laila and Aziza in a room now with no food or water. He's left them in there for more than 2 weeks already and here Laila doesn't think that they'll be able to survive Rasheed's harsh punishment.
Laila just hit Rasheed in an act of defiance towards all the hardship she's been through. In return, Rasheed comes back with a gun in his hand to scare Laila whilst smiling.
