Della is sitting at home. She is crying because she does not have enough money to buy her husband Jim a gift for Christmas. She is thinking about what to do to get more money to buy a gift.
Jim, dear, don´t look at me like that . I had my hair cut off and sold it. I couldn´t live through Christmas without giving you a gift.
You´ve cut your hair off?
Della gets up and puts her coat and her hat and quickly leaves to go and try to get more money
Della quickly goes up to Mrs. Sofronie´s shop. Della meets with Mrs. Sofronie and asks if she will buy her hair. An agreement is made and Dellas hair is cut and sold. Della goes to shop to shop and eventually finds a gold watch chain for Jim´s watch and buys it.
Della went home and started thinking about what she did and started crying. Soon Jim came home and saw how Della´s hair was gone. She tells Jim what she has done and wishes for him to still love her. Shortly after he reveals that he bought Della combs for her hair that she wanted.
Della was very excited about the combs but also sad because her hair was gone. Jim also explains that he sold his watch to buy Della the combs.
