  • Americans Settled in Texas
  • Mexican Government Impacted Settlers
  • Revolt in Texas
  • Mexican allowed Americans to settle in Texas. The Americans eventually outnumbered the Tejanos. 
  • Sam Houston and the Revolution
  • Mexico forced the Americans to follow Mexican ways. They had to convert to Catholicism, speak spanish, and have no slavery. 
  • The Mexican American War
  • Mexico also made Americans start to pay taxes. Many of the Americans wanted to leave Mexican territory now. Mexico's president sent troops to end the revolt.
  • Defeat of the Alamo
  • Texians clashed with Santa Anna's army. Sam Houston and Texian leaders declare Texas Independence in 1836 by signing the Texas Declaration of Independence.
  • People in Texas wanted to be annexed in to the US. Texas was finally annexed into the US in 1845. However, Mexico still thought it was considered their territory. So they went to war. 
  • The alamo was a 13 day battle fought with 180 Americans fighting for independence and 4,000 Mexicans fighting against Texas' independence.
