During World War II, a group of schoolboys is evacuated, on a plane, from Britain for their safety. The plane is attacked and they crash on an inhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. A "scar" is made on the island by the plane when it crashed through the tress and bushes.
One of the schoolboys that was on the plane is Ralph. Ralph is fair-haired, has broad shoulders like a boxer, and has a face that proclaims no devil. He is a good character who is a representative of order and civilization.
While Ralph wandered around the island, he found another schoolboy, Piggy. Piggy was fat, logical, and he wore glasses. He was a very intelligent character and he represented social order.
Ralph and Piggy start to look around to see if they can find more boys. While walking along the beach, they find a washed up conch. Piggy realizes it could be used to summon the other boys together since they are all separated due to the crash.
Ralph blows the conch snd groups of boys start coming together. Among these boys is Jack, the leader of the choir, Simon, a member of the choir, the twins Sam and Eric, and the littluns. The conch represents order and civilization, since all the boys on the island come together when they hear the sound of it.
Once all the boys are assembled, they have to choose their leader. Ralph is chosen to be their leader since he was the one who summoned all the boys and he had the conch. However, Jack thinks he should be the leader since he is the leader of the choir and he is used to being obeyed.
