  • Waaa! I don't to learn about succession anymore. Let's go home, grandma.
  • Calm down! This is just the first part of primary succession, where the volcano erupts. There will be beautiful sights later.
  • Wait.. Where did all the pretty plants and flowers go? It's all rock!
  • Yup. After volcano erupted, the lava took away most plant life. Now we must wait for plants to slowly form again. This is part two of succession, bare rock.
  • Wow! There are so much life compared to the "bare rock" stage.
  • Yes, at step 3,  grass, weed, lichen, and moss are starting to grow back.  Lichen and moss are a "pioneer species".
  • The flowers are so pretty! I can't even tell a volcano erupted here.
  • Yup, flowers are finally growing here., since there is thicker soil This is step 4 in primary succession.
  • Woah! Look, there is a finally a tree growing.
  • After many years, the 5th step in succession is shown. The soil is thick enough for the tree to grow on.
  • Woah! There is a whole forest of these trees now. But it took so long. Thanks for teaching me about succession for school, Grandma!
  • Yes, after thousands of years, the VERY thick soil finally developed, allowing the trees to grow. This is the final step in primary succession.
