  • When 24 million men were drafted through the Selected Service Act of 1917, the women were left behind and they were forced to make changes. One of these changes was that they had to take over the labor industry because the men had left many vacancies and the weight of the war was affecting the economy. Since they still had their original roles they had to take care of their homes, so their roles and expectations duplicated.
