In Persia, there was a ruler named Darius. He wanted to conquer a people called the Ionians Greeks, but when he did , mainland Greece comes in the way and tries to save them. Darius's army crushes them but Darius gets triggered and attempts to conquer mainland Greece.
When Persia first attacked, they attacked 25 miles away from Athens. Darius' army lost that battle but still came toward Athens. Pheidippides, an Athenian soldier ran the 27 miles to tell them that they won. Then he dropped dead.
At the Battle of Thermopylae, an invasion lead by Xerxes, Darius' son who pledged to gain revenge on the Greeks in honor of his father. the Spartans lost after putting up a valiant struggle. It was 300 vs 200,000 men. King Leonidas was the Spartans' leader. In the second Persian War.
The Persians burned Athens down and all the Athenians had to evacuvate. Then, the Persians followed them and tried to attack but their ships got stuck in the little straits and the Greek ships attacked
At the battle of Platea, the Athenians beat the Persians, for the last time.
