" O.K. Someday - we're gonna get the jack together and we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs and - "
" An' live off the fatta the lan'. "
" I heard him, Lennie. I'll ask him."
" A brown and white one. "
" I gotta think about that. We was always gonna do it by ourselves. "
" S'pose I went in with you guys. Tha's three hundred an' fifty bucks I'd put in. I ain't much good, but I could cook and tend the chickens and hoe the garden some. How'd that be ? "
There were two men name George and Lennie who were very close friends. George took care of Lennie because Lennie is slow and not there yet. So he makes sure he doesn't do anything wrong. They are sitting by the river with a campfire going on. They are having a little talk about what they're going to do when they work up a stake
" . . . If you . . . guys would want a hand to work for nothing - just his keep, why'd I'd come an' lend a hand. I ain't so crippled I can't work like a son-of-a-bitch if I want to."
" Were gonna have a room to ourself. We're gonna have a dog and an' rabbits an' chickens. We're gonna have green corn an' maybe a cow or a goat."
George and Lennie finally make it to the bunk house and they meet so many people. Some were mean and some were nice. Later that day George overheard some of the guys talking about baby pups. George had told Lennie that instead of a mouse or a rabbit he can get a dog.
" But he'll know. George always know. He'll say, ' You done it. Don't try to put nothing over me.' An' he'll say,' Now jus for that you don't get to tend no rabbits!' "
George and Lennie were talking about their dream. Candy was laying down and overheard them. Then suggested that he can move in with them. He has enough money to help them get the house. He only has one hand but he can do a lot of things. He can help around the house.
"We'll have a cow," . . . . . " An' we'll have maybe a pig an' chickens . . . an' down the flat we'll have a . . . little piece alfalfa --- "
" For the rabbits."
Lennie had met the crooks. They start talking and than Lennie started to mention the house they were going to live in after they work up a stake. Candy also came in few minutes later and started to talk about the house too. Crooks thought they were playing around but they were being serious. The crooks than suggested that he can also go live with them and help out.
Lennie was in the barn with a dog. But the dog is dead because Lennie thought the dog was going to bite him so Lennie hit it. Now George won't let Lennie have any rabbits casue he can't even take care of a dog.
George had found Lennie by the river where he told him to go if he was ever in trouble. George had pulled out Carlson's gun from Lennie's pocket and pointed it to Lennie's neck. But he kept pulling back cause he wanted to live in the dream house with them. Lennie was talking about him not going to be able to take care of the rabbits. But George said he can and that he's not mad at Lennie.
