  • A central figure of the Revolution, Adams entered the election of 1800 as the Federalist incumbent candidate. However, during his presidency, he lost much support, due to several factors.Adams lost the election, with his 64 electoral votes coming in second to Jefferson and Burr's 73. However, the transfer of power between the two parties exemplified the potential of America's newly-formed democratic government.
