Storyboard Text

  • The shepherd is speaking to Oedipus about how and where Oedipus came from and who is real parents are.
  • Oh, God, here comes the dreadful truth. And I must speak (68)
  • It was the son of Laius, so I was told. But the lady inside there, your wife, she is the one to tell you (68)
  • And I must hear it. But hear it I will (68)
  • Yes my lord, she did (68)
  • To destroy it (68)
  • Her own child? (69)
  • Did she give it to you? (68)
  • For what purpose? (68)
  • She was afraid of dreadful prophecies (69)
  • In pity, master. I thought he would take it away to a foreign country--to the place he came from. If you are the man he says you are, you were born the most unfortunate of men (69)
  • The child would kill its parents, that was the story (69)
  • Then why did you give to this old man here? (69)
  • What were they? (69)
  • Oedipus now realizes what he has done and experiences great shame.
  • Oh God! It has all come true. Light, let this be the last time I see you. I stand revealed--born in shame, married in shame, an unnatural murderer (69)
  • Oedipus stomps into a room angrily but also ashamed and finds Jocasta in the same room, he gains more anger.
  • Oedipus finds a sword from the wall and stabs Jocasta in her stomach.
  • Oedipus! I apologize dearly, I never meant for it to turn out this way.
  • Oedipus....Please....No!
  • How dare you! Throw me out as a baby to die?! You evil being, you have no reason to live any longer.
  • Still ashamed, Oedipus also stabs himself in the stomach and leaves himself laying to die.
  • I, Oedipus also do not deserve to live any longer. Oh, what an unnatural life I have been living for years.
