Let me fill you in on the Chinese Immigrants. For starters, they played an important role in the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. They worked long and hard on death defying jobs that most of the time would kill them! Some things they would do include putting unstable nitroglycerin (black powder) into mountains several times to form a path for the railroad. Most people would agree that what the chinese immigrants did was way more difficult then what everyone else did
It wasn’t easy building an entire railroad let alone living in America as a chinese immigrate. They got treated so cruelly just because they were chinese. They were abused and sometimes killed. They also faced racial discrimination and were criticized for doing things that they didn’t even do! Another hardship they faced was the weather. They had to build in the blazing hot heat and the freezing cold. Sometimes if in the winter tunnels caved in they would have to wait until spring to dig the bodies out!
Let me explain how the Chinese Immigrants were affected during the westward expansion. They were mainly harmed but some good things came out of moving to America. First of all, they got a job which yes may not have been a good job but jobs are jobs, right? Another perk is that they got there OWN personal gourmet chef who cooked interesting yet fascinating meals! On the other hand, they most likely had a much harder life do to how they were treated.
Some important facts during this time include how much harder the Chinese Immigrants worked then the rest. For example, the Union Pacific (the chinese immigrants) laid down 1086 miles of track in all while the central pacific only laid down 690 miles of track!!! Do the math! Another really important fact is that they got involved in the Transcontinental Railroad because they wanted to help build it and weren’t allowed at first. Isn’t that crazy?! Who wouldn’t want extra help on such a big project?
Have you ever thought about why the Chinese Immigrants decided to move to America? Believe it or not, it wasn’t because of the transcontinental railroad! Yes they did do that when they came here but the main reason they came here was because of the gold being found in california. Isn’t that crazy. They sailed here on boats from china just to have the chance of finding gold, it wasn’t even a guarantee
Have you ever thought about America’s thought process behind the Westward Expansion? I mean think about, why did the Americans file a law that said the chinese immigrants weren’t allowed in America for a VERY long period of time? Would you tell someone they weren’t allowed in your country even though they were helping you greatly?!
