Storyboard Text

  • Lust
  • This between us means nothing, and you know I have a wife.
  • John, you cannot act like you feel nothing between us these months.
  • Reputation and Integrity
  • Tell me, Abigail, what were you and the others doing in the woods?
  • We were only dancing in the woods, not doing witchcraft!
  • Revenge
  • I promise I have never done any type of witchcraft! Cheever who accused me?
  • Elizabeth, you're under arrest for witchcraft! Where is the poppet?
  • Abigail said you sent your spirit on her and used the needle to hurt her
  • Elizabeth is an upright women who has never lied in her life!
  • Abigail and John have their affair in his barn, and this shows the theme of lust because they both know they shouldn't be together because John has a wife, and it's very sinful.
  • Hysteria
  • Rebecca, I know you are responsible for the death of my babies!
  • This is the beginning of the lying of the girls to protect themselves. They didn't want to tell the truth because they could get in serious trouble for dancing. The girls also didn't want to ruin their good names in the town.
  • Lies and Deceit
  • Tituba made me laugh during prayer and comes to me at night!
  • Abigail wants to incriminate Elizabeth to have John for herself so she was willing to send Elizabeth to jail for witchcraft, which she did not even participate in.
  • Pride
  • I chose to die rather than lie for something I didn't do
  • Mrs. Putnam accuses Rebecca Nurse of killing her babies that died after being born. This shows the theme of hysteria because Mrs. Putnam feels the need to blame someone for her children not surviving.
  • Mrs. Putnam how could you say that? You know I am a Godly women
  • Abigail lies to accuse Tituba of trying to get her to be a witch like her and she says that Tituba made her laugh during prayer and tries to make her do evil things. These are just a few examples of all the things Abigail says to protect herself.
  • Tituba, is this true?
  • I never did any of that! She is lying!
  • At the end of the book, John Proctor decided that he would rather oppose to letting the church humiliate him by putting his name on the church door. I don't think his pride in this situation was a bad thing because he didn't deserve humiliation.
