John White and his 117 colonists set sail for Portsmouth, England to establish a new colony near Chesapeake Bay. The colonists made an unsuccessful attempt to establish the island of Roanoke but Sir Richard Grenville left the island to get more supplies, and the colonists who stayed soon got bored of waiting and when Grenville got back the colonists where gone.
In August White's daughter gave birth to a girl that they soon named Virginia. She was the first English child born in North America. On Virginia's 3rd birthday which was on August 18th White found the first clue, the words "CROATOAN" carved into a tree. A search was then held to look for the missing colonists.
I believe the scenario that makes more sense s that the colonists traveled to Croatoan themselves because John White took too long to get back which is why instead the colonists went to Croatoan to do something or to explore new land. I believe this because it makes sense that they would get bored and want to explore somewhere they have never been before.
