The Feudal System By: Alicia Gebara
We are Kings and Queens. We make up the highest class of the feudal system! I own all the land and am considered to be the highest lord of Europe. All the nobles and knights are my vassals, that means that they fight with me, pay me on special occasions, and give me food and shelter if I come to visit. I pay my vassals with fiefs and they pay me with taxes.
We are the nobles! We make up the second level of the feudal system. We are the vassals of kings and queens and are the lords of lower ranking lords and knights. We have complete power over the people who live in our fiefs. I am a lord and my wife is a lady. I send help to my vassals in case of an enemy attack and treat them fairly.
We are knights and make up the third level of the Feudal system! Our parents were lords and ladies and we began our knight training at 7 years old! Some of us were taught to read and write but our sisters were not. We serve our noble lords by fighting with them in exchange for land. We give our lord money on special occasions and provide them with shelter and food when they visit. We do all of this because we are their vassals. We can be the vassals of more than one lord. Hopefully one day we will become lords if we gain enough land!
We are Peasants and are the common people in the feudal system! We do not own land ,but we farm on land that nobles or knights own. We pay taxes and are illiterate, but we are lucky to be protected by our lords! We grow our own food and have long work days. We pay our lords with food or other payment (taxes). We are happy with our village life because it is all we have ever known.
