  • In 1857, Fredrick married Sarah Elizabeth Bloedel and they had 7 children
  • Hello, I´m Fredrick. My wife, Sarah is going to show you around. 
  • Fredrick Weyerhauser was a German immigrant who worked in the lumber industry. He left germany when he was 18, in 1852.
  • This is the forest that has a lot of white pine, which is what fredrick uses.
  • In 1900, fredrick bought 900,000 acres from James J hill railroad company. It was an estimated price of $6 an acre
  • Some of Fredrick's workers had to endure the harsh mother nature while they were working. 
  • There were many threats to the lumber industry in the beginning, including forest fires. 
  • In 1900, 400+ lumber companies were owned by Fredrick. He was even nicknamed ¨The lumber king¨.
  • This is the lumber mill in Illinios 
  • This is the river where people put the logs in to send downstream to the other people for the company. 
  • One of fredrick's ideas was to have people mark the logs before they send them downstream so workers from his company could tell which logs were theirs.
  • In 1906, a muckraking journalist called Weyerhaeuser “richer than Rockefeller” and claimed he had built his fortune by destroying forests and committing fraud.
