  • Why is this! We been taxing the third estates for centuries, how can this now be a problem?
  • 1789-King calls Meeting of the Generals Stage 2
  • You need to pay more taxes to us so we can pay for war efforts. The tax will be... little bit more.
  • NO, I will not have people in the 3rd estate pay more taxes when out income is signifigantly less.
  • 1789-Oath of the Tennis CourtStage 3
  • We pledge not to separate, and to reassemble wherever the circumstances are, until the constitution of the kingdom is established.
  • In 1789 France was considered to be one of the wealthiest countries, or the wealthiest country in the world. But it was also broke, the country has spent more money of the war effort and helping in the American revolution, then collection taxes.
  • 1789- Declaration of the rights of Man.
  • For the first time in 175 years, the king has called the Meeting of the general. Since France were broke, they raised the taxes. But they only taxed the 3rd estate also known as the commoners, the commoners did not want to pay so the king called the meeting of the Estates General.

  • At a indoor tennis court on the palace grounds the Third estate protested saying that they were the National Assembly of France. The Members of the National Assembly swore to an oath called the Oath of the Tennis Court. They promised to write a constitution for the country of France.
  • In August of 1789 the members of the National Assembly passed the Declaration of the Rights of Man. This document clearly stated the point of revolution and that all people, regardless of stature or social class should be treated equal and the same. There moto was: "liberty, equality, fraternity."

  • On July 14 of 1789, a group of protesters when to a place called The Bastille which was a fortress and a prison. The crowd demanded the goernore give them his cannons and other guns. While the soldiers where trying to keep them at bay, fighting broke out and left many dead.
