- King Jaron is on his way home when his ship, The Red Serpent, is attacked and captured by Prozarians. The Prozarians kill the pirate, Erick, who was one of Jaron's closest friends, and plan on taking him, Roden, Tobias, and Amarinda hostage.
- Jane Strick, the captain of the Prozarian ship, realizes that Tobias and Roden are pretending to be Jaron. Strick threatens Roden and his only way to live is to pledge loyalty to her. After doing so, Roden secretly meets with Jaron and claims that he is still loyal to the King of Carthya. However Jaron, knowing what Roden will have to do to stay alive, gives him a warning.
- There will never again be any agreements between us. Long after your time has passed, the true king of Carthya will continue to reign. (349)
- Once Jaron arrives at the country, Belland, a trial is conducted by his older brother Darius whom Jaron thought was dead. The people of Belland trust Darius, and Captain Strick tries to pressure him into finding Jaron guilty of killing their parents, so she can legally arrest Jaron. At the same time, Jaron wants to be there for Darius and help him make the right decision, but Darius is very upset with Jaron.
- CORONATION
- After the trial, Jaron is arrested by the Prozarians and forced to dive into ice cold water to search for the third lens of a telescope that could lead to a buried treasure. Jaron finds a pocket of air in the flooded cave and makes his way onto land. On the surface, a strange light catches his eye.
- After Jaron escapes from the cave, he and Darius confront the queen of the Prozarians, Wilta, and Captain Strick. The Prozarians think they have captured all of Jaron's friends, but his friends are actually completing part of Jaron's elaborate plan to defeat them. Wilta threatens Jaron when he does not give her the third lens of the telescope. Darius defends Jaron and stands up for himself.
- After Jaron destroys all the Prozarian ships and has them surrender, the country Belland is finally set free. Jaron attends a ceremony where his brother, Darius, will be crowned king of Belland. Jaron is truly proud of his older brother.
