- Confusion
- Mrs. Miller, I need some help using the box method when multiplying polynomials.
- Of course I can!!!
- (2x + 3)(4x + 5)
- 2x
- 3
- 4x
- 5
- Multiply
- 2x
- 3
- 8x^2
- 12x
- 4x
- 15
- 10x
- 5
- Kayla had some trouble with using the "box" methods when multiplying polynomials so she ask Mrs. Miller for some help.
- Combine Like Terms
- 8x^2
- 4x
- 10x
- 5
- "First put the first equation on the top side of the chart and put the second equation on the left side of the chart."
- Add
- 8x^2 + (12x + 10x) + 158x^2 + 22x + 15
- "Then you would multiply each of the corresponding boxes together."
- Satisfaction
- Thank you, Mrs. Miller! I I get it now.
- No problem! You are going to be a rock star!
- "Next step, you would combine like terms. In this case the like term would be 10x and 12x. So you would combine those."
- 2x
- 3
- 12x
- 15
- "Lastly, you would place the terms in the correct way: the largest exponents would be first, followed by the second largest, and then last. And then you're done!"
- Kayla finally got the method and will definitely becpme a rock star!
