Chapter 8: Dr. T.J. Eckelberg
"Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously at the pressure of his head, whereupon he turned and caught it with trembling fingers"(Fitzgerald 91)This represents that Gatsby is running out of time with Daisy and that he needs to take this opportunity.
Chapter 9: The Weather
"A moment later she rushed out into the dusk, waving her hands and shouting; before he could move from his door the business was over"(Fitzgerald 144)This represents that Myrtle dies to materialism, we see this due to gatsby's car being expensive and one of a kind and her chase for materialism kills her. She also believed the car was Tom's which shows a whole other side of Myrtle.
"Standing behind him Michaelis saw with a shock that he was looking into the eyes of Dr.T.J. Eckleburg which had just emerged pale and enormous from the dissolving night."(Fitzgerald 167)This represents the eyes of God looking down on the sinners and deceitful inhabitants of his world.
