Pollution is when harmful substances enter the environment. These are called pollutants. Today, I want to tell you about water pollution, because it can cause harm, and people need to be aware about it.
Lets go to the beach so you can actually see the pollution properly.
Woah! is all of that plastic water pollution?
Yes!One cause of water pollution is marine dumping, people keep dumping plastic into the oceans. Improper sewage disposal is an other source. Most of the sewage is dumped into the ocean, if people flush harmful things in the toilet, it ends up here.
Even agriculture is a cause of water pollution. Fertilizers contain nitrogen salts, when it rains, these salts seep away and enter water bodies. This can make the water toxic. Factories dump there waste in the ocean too... And sometimes when your car leaks? That oil mixes with groundwater and enters waterbodies... Oil spills happen in water bodies when people make accidents with oil, while producing, refining, storing, or transposting it.
This, not only harms the animals but also harms us. Because of water pollution, the water we get can be contaminated too. There are many pollutants in the water like:- Lead: which can harm your nevous system.- Arsenic: which can cause skin cancer and can harm your liver.Even if a fish eats a bit of plastic, we might end up eating the fish. So through the food chain, this will reach us.
If farmers stop using a lot of fertilizer, factories stop dumping chemicals into the water, plastic is not thrown in there, and people are careful when they use oil, we can reduce water pollution.
But what can I do about water pollution?
Oh great! An individual can also help in reducing water pollution. I will tell all my fireinds about this.
You should dispose houseold chemcials properly. Many of these can be recycled, so that can be done. You should choose cleaners and pesticides that don’t contain dangerous chemicals, and are biodegradable. Eating organic food also helps, many synthetic chemicals are used in food, which generally end up in the water. Organic food doesn’t have too much chemical on it. You can avoid using plastic as it either ends up on land or in water.
