Storyboard Text

  • LOOK AT ALL THIS WATER FROM THE RAIN AND CO2 IN THE AIR, IT'S GOING TO MAKE SOME YUMMY FOOD!
  • First is the "light dependent reaction", this starts with water going into me.
  • light energy
  • oxygen
  • Light energy and energy stored in chemical bonds called atp and nadph split water into oxygen which is a waste product plants give off.
  • nadph
  • atp
  • The next form of photosynthesis is the "Calvin Cycle", this starts with me inhaling the CO2 in the air...
  • adp
  • nadp+
  • atp
  • nadph
  • +p
  • sugar
  • This reaction requires no light, so they get the energy from the chemical bonds. This occurs in the stroma, which is like the cytoplasm for the chloroplasts. Plants open their stomata, basically pores in the plant, and that lets C02 into their bodies. They then "fix" it into sugar.
  • The process of photosynthesis lets animals eat plants because of the glucose in them, so it gives them food. It also gives animals oxygen that the plants had given off to inhale, so they don't die, and so they can exhale carbon dioxide that plants will inhale, which will restart the whole photosynthesis cycle all over again.
