Storyboard Text

  • On March 5, 1770, there was street fight between British soldiers and American colonists, which caused even more rage.
  • Eventually, Britain removed the taxes on everything, except for the tea, because it was one of the most bought products.
  • Tea smuggling became a trend, that is how most people were able to purcahse it without any tax. John Hancock was one of the most popular tea smugglers.
  • In the night of December 17th, 1773, a large group of people boarded ships and threw 342 chests (45 tons = $1,000,000 dollars) of tea into the water.
  • Some important characters such as John Adams, were excited and proud of knowing that the Boston Harbor was full of tea. Others, like Benjamin Franklin were ashamed and even offered money to pay the destruction.
  • Some movements and battles such as these, made the United States go from being the Thirteen Colonies ruled by Britain to the very important country it has been through history.
  • In the American flag, the 13 red stripes represent the Thirteen Colonies.
