Storyboard Text

  • Ancient Greece
  • IN ANCIENT GREECE....
  • My child has a disability... so he can't contribute to the city when he's older.
  • He must perish...
  • In modern day Greece, people still have the same ideologies, and stigmatize children with disabilites.
  • Child care institution in Greece
  • Grace has down syndrome, and I'm not able to take care of her much longer...she's 3.
  • In Ancient Greece they believed that children with disabilities were useless to the army (specifically boys), so they left them to die.
  • Time for her lunch and medication.
  • Often, children like Grace are sent to child care institutions as part of the welfare system, because their parents don't have the resources to take care of them.
  • Six and a half years later..
  • In institutions such as this one, they treat the children as patients rather than human beings that need love and care, as they have so many to take care of and so little staff. They also confine and tie them in cages.
  • For the whole day, the children are left with nothing to do as they don't have personal belongings in the cages. There is nothing to stimulate, or entertain them.
  • Unfortunately Grace didn't get to see the age of 10 after she died from choking on fabric and threads.
