My name is Nancy, and my father is a freedmen. I live in the south, where "separate but equal" is the only rule that is seemed to be followed. This is also called segregation. Radical whites are usually rude in public.
I just wanted something to eat, not to be judged by my skin color... The 13th, 14th,and 15th amendments are supposed to protect us. And black codes don't help us very much. The Government didn't want us Blacks to vote so they made poll tax and literacy tests since most freedmen had no money or education.
Discrimination is not okay. Reconstruction did not work for us blacks. The Ku Klux Klan is still our worst enemy. Thank goodness for the freemen's bureau.
