  • A police shot and killed an unarmed African American named Timothy Thomas, possibly as a racial act.
  • People started peacefully protesting regarding the bad police response to the police shooting.
  • Tensions were already high in the city because there had been previous incidents of police brutality and racial profiling.
  • The peaceful protests eventually broke out into 4 nights of restless riots.
  • People vandalized and destroyed the city. The riots finally ended when the city imposed a curfew, and calmed the protesters.
