1863-The Battle of Gettysburg
Robert E. Lee launched a second invasion on the Northern states. He wanted to capitalize some Confederate victories and defeat the Union army on Northern soil.
Take that you Northern states and Union army!
Lee and his army hid out in Shendahou valley, but soon collide with the Union army in Gettysburg Pennsylvania on the morning of July 1st.
On July 3rd Lee attacked the Union center on Cemetery Ridge and was repulsed in Pickett's charge.
Lee's 2nd invasion of the North had failed, and had resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. Fighting resumed and on Culp’s hill and battles raged to the east and south. President Lincoln dedicated this battle to all the fallen soldiers of the union.
