Tom Walker and his wife hate each other and they both live miserable lives.
Tom takes a shortcut through a creepy swamp and comes encounter with a strange man (Devil), that wants to make a deal with Tom. He offers him a fortune.
He goes home to tell his wife and she insists that he sells his soul, but Tom does not because she wants him to.
His wife takes everything of value with her in hopes she could find the devil and sell her soul. She then goes missing, so Tom goes and looks for the valuables, but finds a heart and a liver tied in the apron that belonged to his wife. He is grateful that the devil had gotten rid of her.
He went to find the devil, but the devil treated him as indifferent, but he still made the deal with Tom. The devil gets Toms soul, and Tom will get money if he works as an usurer of the devils money.
Tom is a money man. He goes to church and carries a bible in his pockets in hope he'll go to heaven. One day while dealing with a client he losses his patients and says, "The devil take me". The devil then comes and takes Tom away. Tom now haunts where he once lived.
