Crispin puts his back against the wall and takes the dagger out that he had stolen from Bear. He tells them to stay away and accidentally lunges at one man with a stick. The man slams the stick down on Crispin’s wrist, causing much pain, and he drops the dagger.
Crispin, you stunted son of a scoundrel!
He keeps running until he has lost everyone. He is frantic, everything now looks the same and he can’t find his way around the walls. He remembers that Bear had told him that the wall surrounded the entire city of Great Wexley. Crispin plans that he is going to walk in a straight line until he finds the wall, follow it until he sees the gate that they once entered in.
He saw someone coming toward him, with a lantern in hand. Crispin began to run in the opposite direction and heard, “Crispin! Stop!”
Ah, you found him. I am afraid John Ball has arrived.
Crispin was terrified, and he stopped and turned around. The angry voice said, “Crispin, you stunted son of a scoundrel!” It was Bear.
Where, by the sins of Lucifer, have you been!
Crispin tells him how the men attacked him and were after him. He tells Bear of how here members that Aycliffe is Lady Furnival’s sibling and that she must have called for him to her home here. Bear said that he was afraid of that, and Crispin wanted to know why he hadn’t told him yet. Bear said he wanted to get past it all.
I was attacked
She tells Bear that John Ball has just arrived. He gets Crispin to the room, with food and clothes. She comes in and tells him that John is getting anxious.
