  • The Summoner meets a Yeoman and they develop a comradery and The Yeoman reveals to the Summoner that he is a fiend.
  • Climax
  • The Summoner does not believe that the Yeoman is a fiend, but he decides to become friends with him despite his skepticism.
  • Falling Action
  • When the Summoner and the fiend meet a farmer whose cart is stuck in the mud, the farmer says in exasperation that the devil take him. The fiend does not take him because he did not mean it.
  • Resolution
  • The Summoner and the Yeoman confront a rich widow in order to collect her taxes. She refuses and tells the Summoner, "The devil take you and the frying pan."
  • The Fiend states to the Summoner that due to the widow stating her words with conviction, he must take him to Hell.
  • The Summoner gets dragged down to hell.
