One day, Persephone, Demeter's daughter, was picking flowers, until Hades, the God of the Underworld, sprouted from the ground and captured her and took her to his lair
please don't hurt me
MMWWWWAH AHH AHH! Come with me!
Demeter was worried sick so she asked Helios, the sun God, if he'd seen her daughter, Persephone.
It tis Hades!
Where is my Daughter?
Zeus heard what had happened and demaneded that Hades let go Persephone. She was super happy.
Let her go!
After Zeus left, Hades had tricked and feed Persephone a pomegranate so she would have to come back at some parts of the year. (Winter and fall)
ha ha ha!
yum! Wait a Minute...
Persephone found out about the trick. She was sad, yes, but she had to go down to the underworld . Demeter, was relieved and sad, but just glad to see her daughter. So, they made a compromise. In the Fall and winter, Persephone would go down to the underworld, in the Summer and Spring she would stay up with Demeter.
I will miss you mother.
I shall miss you too.
So, when Persephone is visting her Husband, Lord Hades, her mother would weep and make all the plants drown and freeze.
