  • Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in ending Cold War tensions.
  • USSR ends/ now Russia

  • The Soviet Union Socialist Republics was a socialist state in Eurasia that existed from December 26th 1991 to December 30th 1922. 
  • Crackdown in baltic states

  • Lithuania has charged 66 citizens of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine with war crimes and crimes against humanity over the deaths of 13 civilians in a Soviet crackdown.
  • Yeltsin served as the president of Russia from 1991 until 1999 he was also a Communist Party member for much of his life, and played an instrumental role in the collapse of the Soviet Union. Three days after it began, the coup against Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev collapses.
