  • June 27th was the day of the Lottery. Everyone was nervous or scared.
  • Guess we better get started, get this over with, so's we can get back to work.
  • Little late today, folks.
  • Everyone is quiet while waiting to open their paper.
  • (Mr. Summers) Everything clear? Okay. Adams.....Allen Bentham....Clark Delacriox
  • I hate this time of year.
  • All right, fellows. Who is it?
  • It's Bill.Bill Hutchinson's got it.
  • Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr. Summers:
  • You didn't give him enough time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn't fair.
  • Shut up, Tessie.
  • Be a good sport, Tessie. All of us took the same chance.
  • The Hutchinson's family all drew again and Tessie got the paper with the black dot.
  • (Mr. Summers) All right, folks. Let's finish quickly.
  • Please no!! It isn't fair!!!! It's not right!! Plea-----
