  • Of what value is philosophy to them? Why should they "philosophize"
  • Philosophy can bring understanding to ethical issues in psychiatrymental distress experienceshuman consciousness
  • It is also important for the students to see mental illness as a disease like any other that affect human beings
  • Wait! Wait! Plato are you saying my mind and my brain are two different things?
  • So you are saying they should appreciate that Philosophy of Mental Health can be applied to all parts of the practice
  • The nursing students need to understand the relationship between mental illness and the physical illness
  • It can be used to explain that mental illnesses can also occur as a result of some inherited genetic abnormalities or alterations of brain chemistry.What else should they be aware of?
  • When philosophy is applied by Mental Health, nursing students they will realize that not all patients will fit in one box. And that applying strict procedures might not be best!
  • Ethics in a philosophical sense dictates that only those willing should be treated. However, they should not be intimidated and apply forced treatment when such patients may harm themselves or others.
