Jamie notices that the girls are neater, that they like things that are pretty and pink, and that they don't like to run around and get dirty. She also notices that the boys are messier, that they like to build things, and that they love to play sports.
Jamie isn't sure where she fits in. She likes to climb trees and make block towers but she doesn't care for toy cars. Jamie's handwriting isn't pretty like Alison and Sarah's but she still likes to draw flowers and rainbows.
Jamie notices a boy she hasn't seen yet. He looks just like the other boys except for his hands. She sees that his fingernails are painted pink, just like hers. She walks up to him and says, "I like your nail polish."
The boy smiles widely and says, "Thank you! I like your short hair." Jamie smiles back and says, "I'm Jamie, what's your name?" The boy says, "My name is Jack. How come you're not playing hopscotch with the other girls?"
Jamie says, "I don't really like hopscotch. I like to climb trees instead. How come you're not playing football with the other boys?" Jack responds, "I don't really like football. I like to go on the swings instead."
Just like Jamie, Jack didn't seem to fit in either. He isn't messy like the other boys but he still likes to play with toy cars. Jack doesn't like to draw flowers and rainbows but he still loves the color pink.
