  • It was provoked by a tax on whisky, and was the first serious challenge to federal authority. Collection of the tax met violent resistance, but when President Washington called out the militia, the rebellion collapsed.
  • How it was Stopped
  • We must stop this nonsence,
  • George Washington rebelled against tax on Whiskey. Daniel Moran was also a commander in the Whiskey Rebellion. Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton pushed for the federal government to take over the debt. He also suggested an excise tax on whiskey to prevent further financial difficulty. 
  • How it Challenged the Government 
  • We have stopped the farmers from rebelling.
  • The Whiskey Rebellion Revolt against the US government took place in Pennsylvania. 
  • How did they feel about Stopping the Rebellion
  • By 1794, the Whiskey Rebellion threatened the stability of the nascent United States and forced President Washington to personally lead the United States militia westward to stop the rebels.
  • It challenged the government because it was the first serious challenge to federal authority.
