Storyboard Text

  • How Alexander Rose to Power
  • Hello, I am Alexander the Great! I use a combination of terror and kindness to conquer the world. I am kind to the places that  surrender to me, but destroy the buildings of the ones that resist me.
  • How He United the Empire
  • I plan to unite my great empire by spreading Greek ideas, using religion to make my people more loyal, and to respect their way of life.
  • Alexander the Great's Legacy
  • Today's lesson... ALEXANDER THE GREAT!
  • ... even when he died, the Greek culture that he'd worked hard to spread lived on.
  • After King Philip passed away, his son, Alexander, took the throne. He settled a rebellion and went on to defeat Persia with a Greek and Macedonian empire.
  • In order to spread Greek ideas, Alexander built Greek-styled cities, brought Greeks to live in his cities throughout the ancient world, and let the soldiers and government officials speak only Greek. On the other hand, he honored Greek, Egyptian, and Persian gods alike, and adopted many foreign customs.
  • Alexander’s empire fell apart after he died. Residents left their homes, his empire split into 3 countries, and Greek power disappeared. However, his ideas and culture continued to influence the ancient world and its people.
