Storyboard Text

  • Macbeth announces that he has killed the king to his wife.
  • I have done the deed
  • Macbeth talks about the guilt he feels from killing the king, saying that he will never sleep again. Lady Macbeth dismisses this and tells him to wash the blood off his hands.
  • I thought I heard a voice cry, “Sleep no more! Macbeth is murdering sleep.” Innocent sleep. Sleep that soothes away all our worries. Sleep that puts each day to rest. Sleep that relieves the weary laborer and heals hurt minds. Sleep, the main course in life’s feast, and the most nourishing.
  • Who said that? Why, my worthy lord, you let yourself become weak when you think about things in this cowardly way. Go get some water and wash this bloody evidence from your hands. Why did you carry these daggers out of the room? They have to stay there. Go take them back and smear the sleeping guards with the blood.
  • Macduff meets with Macbeth's porter who stayed up late drinking.
  • Was it so late, friend, ere you went to bed, That you do lie so late?
  • 'Faith sir, we were carousing till the second cock.
  • Macduff discovers the king has been murdered and tells his sons, Malcolm and Donalbian. Lennox tells them that the servants murdered their father and Macbeth claims that he killed the servants.
  • Your Royal Father has been murdered.
  • Oh, by whom?
  • It appears that the servants did it.
  • And yet I still regret the anger that drove me to kill them.
  • Malcolm and Donalbian plan to run away, as they do not trust the nobles.
  • What will you do? Let’s not consort with them.To show an unfelt sorrow is an office which the false man does easy. I’ll to England.
  • To Ireland, I. Our separated fortune shall keep us both the safer. Where we are, there’s daggers in men’s smiles. The near in blood, he nearer bloody.
  • Macduff discusses his suspicion of Malcolm and Donalbian being responsible for the murder and Ross tells Macduff that Macbeth will become king in their stead.
  • Malcolm and Donalbian ran away. They must be responsible for this murder.
  • Then the sovereignty will fall upon Macbeth.
