Black Footed Ferret vs Golden Lion Tamarin

Black Footed Ferret vs Golden Lion Tamarin

Storyboard Text

  • You can talk through the phone!
  • I must look very different to you! I am a Black-footed Ferret and I am white with a black mask, tail tip and 4 short black legs, and big front paws!
  • Johnny found a phone!
  • He forgot to say that we live in the grasslands of the Prairie in North America!
  • Our wild population is 500 ferrets while the captive is 300. This is because humans were killing our prey(the prairie dogs) as pests and that lead to our population falling in the late nineteenth century. In 1974 we were thought to be extinct, but in the year 1981 a colony of 130 ferrets was found! However, soon after the discovery it was struck by disease and in 1987 there were only 18 ferrets left! 6,000 ferrets were born in captivity and finally we were let out into the wild!
  • We both had captive breeding programs, and we have been brought back from the edge of being extinct!
  • We are both small creatures!
  • I missed the phone call!!!
  • Hello, I am a Golden Lion Tamarin! I live in a rain forest in Brazil. I am like a monkey with a golden mane and golden fur.
  • It's on speaker phone!
  • WOW! You have a long history! Like you, we were affected by humans coming into our land. 90% of our rain forest has been cut down, and we were sold as pets! By 1970 there were only about 200 of us left, in a rain forest near Rio de Janeiro, and now we suffer from inbreeding. Our breeding program started in 1962 and 1972. We were finally let out into nature reserves and now there are 1,000 tamarins, including a captive number of 450!
  • Our habitats have been destroyed by humans.
  • AND... We are both amazing!
